Jewellery manufacturer Swarovski has built a half-metre tall, seven kilo trophy for an in-person Fortnite tournament set to kick off at the weekend.
The winner of the FNCS Invitational in Raleigh will receive the enormous trophy which is designed to look like the FNCS shield and is covered in “bespoke heliotrope crystals,” apparently.
“Throughout the trophy development phase, Swarovski created its photorealistic renderings using Unreal Engine, allowing for quick and comprehensive evaluation of the design. Working from Swarovski’s manufacturing headquarters in Wattens, Austria, the team used multiple innovations, including laser plotting, fine grinding, and polishing, to ensure a flawless result,” said Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite and the Unreal Engine, in a statement.
The new trophy is a serious upgrade on the previous major trophy, which looked like the Fortnite battle bus. The FNCS Invitational will take place on 12 and 13 November, with a total prize pool of US$1 million.
However, Fortnite isn’t the only game linking up with high-end jewellery manufacturers. Riot Games announced a few days ago that the trophy for the upcoming League of Legends Summoner’s Cup was designed by Tiffany & Co.
