Every city has a suburb forever laden with the epithet “where the IKEA is”.
For Sydney-siders, it’s Tempe or Rhodes (“you know, where the IKEA is”) and in Majorca, Spain, it’s Poligno de Son Malferit (“where the IKEA is”). Granted, it still sounds much more exotic than ‘Tempe’.
So, when a branch of KFC opened up in Poligno de Son Malferit, it capitaled on the IKEA-association and absolutely nailed its out-of-home marketing strategy.
Rather than the Colonel’s archetypal, perhaps even iconic, red and white colour scheme, the billboard is in IKEA’s even more iconic Swedish blue and yellow, topped off with the familiar oval shape.
Gracias, @KFC_ES, por indicar a la gente dónde está el #PolloPollo: en nuestras albóndigas HUVUDROLL.😉 pic.twitter.com/9wIisE5Vcn

The KFC tweet reads, “we recently opened another KFC in Palma de Mallorca, but nobody really knew where it was, so we had to do this.”
After sharing it on Twitter, the official IKEA account replied: “Thanks @KFC_ES for telling people where the #ChickenChicken is: in our HUVUDROLL meatballs 😉.”
Does this mean potential for a KFC inspired IKEA meatball collection? We can only dream.
