While most tech companies strive to make things smaller, lighter and more compact, Sony has gone in the opposite direction, unveiling a 16K TV that’s two storeys high – which is bigger than a bus.
To put that size in perspective, 1080p HD is considered amongst most technophiles to be a decent pixel size for watching sports, TV shows or movies.
Sony’s latest tech advancement has 64 times more pixels than that.
The giant TV sits at 19.2 metres (63ft) wide and 5.4 metres (17ft) high.
Strategy analytics’ David Mercer told the BBC: “We’re moving slowly towards 8K TVs at the end of the decade and who knows how long it will take to get beyond that, so 16K is likely to be limited to the corporate world for the time being.
“But there’s no doubt about it. These displays are incredibly impressive in person – even 8K on a big display is almost mesmerising.
“When you get to this resolution it delivers almost a quasi-virtual reality experience as your eyes perceive there to be depth to the content.”
Though this gigantic TV is only limited to the corporate world at this time, it’s just another example of the incredible advancements in technology consumers can expect to see in the near future, and is also a testament to the fact that oftentimes, bigger is better.
