NewsMediaWorks has announced the appointment of respected media industry executive Simon Davies as its new marketing director.

Davies joins NewsMediaWorks with more than 20 years’ experience working with media agencies and media owners.

He most recently owned a consulting business and, prior to that, spent four years with Bauer Media as its head of brand advertising strategy and director of media solutions.

Davies joined Bauer from OMD, where he was the media agency’s head of national trading.

He has worked as the deputy chairman of the executive committee at the Audit Bureau of Circulations on behalf of the Media Federation of Australia. Davies has also worked in sales management roles at ACP Australia (now Bauer) and Murdoch Magazines.

Davies replaces Charlie Murdoch at NewsMediaWorks, who is joining News Corp as its general manager of trade marketing.

NewsMediaWorks CEO Peter Miller said Davies brings a depth of strategic and analytical thinking to the marketing director role.

“His experience in the media sector, working with OMD on some of the country’s largest advertisers and then with media owners on sales strategy and solutions, will be invaluable to NewsMediaWorks as we continue to see advertisers re-evaluating and then investing back in newspapers and news websites,” Miller said.

“I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of Charlie in the role during his five years with NewsMediaWorks.

“He has worked relentlessly to promote the sector and has overseen many initiatives and we wish him well at News Corp, where we will continue to collaborate on behalf of the industry.”

Commenting on his new role, Davies said: “I believe it’s an exciting time to be working in the news media sector, as it shows positive signs of growth.

“Advertisers and their media agencies are seeking out trusted, credible media channels, with engaged audiences and news media is unrivalled on all those measures. I look forward to bringing my knowledge to the role and continuing the growth trajectory for news media.”

Davies commences his role at NewsMediaWorks on Monday 10 September.
