NZ’s Leading Queer Mag Rebrands As “YOUR EX” & The Jokes Ensue

New Zealand veteran media outlet, express Magazine, has recently announced a saucy rebrand.

For over 30 years, the “unapologetically queer” publication was known as express magazine and has been creating content with the mission of informing, supporting and strengthening New Zealand’s LGBTQIA+ communities.

With humble origins as an A-4-sized, four-page photocopied pamphlet in 1992, New Zealand’s only LGBTQIA+ magazine and media has grown a portfolio that now boasts their go-to website, a full-gloss monthly publication, also available online, and a sizeable social media presence.

And they have a devilish sense of humour. In another leg of its continuous innovation, express has now rebranded as “YOUR EX”.

If you’re after ideas of how this can be used in a sentence, our suggestions include “I picked up YOUR EX at the supermarket,” and “I’m in YOUR EX this month.”

In a comment to B&T, editor of YOUR EX Oliver Hall, explained: “To celebrate the milestone of being in publication for 30 years, we felt the magazine deserved a glow up!

“When first published back in the nineties, there were many magazines worldwide called ‘express’, and New Zealand’s ‘express’ stood proudly as the country’s only national LGBTQ+ media.

“We felt ‘YOUR EX’ was a fun, cheeky refresh, that acknowledged that legacy while paying tribute to the communities that ‘YOUR EX’ truly belongs to. We are ‘YOUR EX’ because we are theirs, and amplify their voices. We also love that the jokes just write themselves.”
