Nike Salutes Serena’s Retirement In Farewell Spot Narrated By Zendaya

Nike has paid tribute to tennis ace Serena Williams following her defeat – and subsequent retirement – to Aussie player Ajla Tomljanović at the US Open on Friday.

The work of incumbent agency Wieden+Kennedy Portland, the spot is surprisingly narrated by the actor, Zendaya of Spider-Man fame.

The 60-second spot includes the line “By changing nothing, she changed everything.” Williams herself may even have had a hand in it – she repeated the exact same sentiments in a post-match interview following her defeat to Tomljanović.

Commenting on the spot, a Nike spokesperson said: “Serena Williams redefined what it means to be a true champion. Her legacy transcends sport and has inspired generations. We look forward to continuing our long-standing partnership with her. And, we thank her for all she has done and will do in the future.”

Such is William’s status as arguably the greatest female athlete of all time, it’s been reported that Nike has plans to continue to use the 40-year-old in its marketing despite her departure from the game.
