News Corp Swings The Axe On Prime Aussie Mastheads

The major local publications at News Corp are in the firing line, as the publisher looks to reduce costs with a round of redundancies.

According to a report by The Australian Financial Review, approximately 30 editorial jobs are set to be gone from News Corp’s Aussie mastheads, including The Australian, the Herald Sun and The Daily Telegraph.

The report said the redundancies will be of both the voluntary and forced variety, but there is no specific target in terms of headcount.

Some production staff will leave News Corp to join AAP subsidiary Pagemasters as sub-editors, the report said.

A News Corp Australia spokesperson told B&T: “As part of our overall business strategy, we have an ongoing focus on how we can identify opportunities to make our operations more efficient.

“Equally, this applies to our editorial operations and how we identify opportunities to create the most efficient digitally responsive newsrooms.”
