Former Australian netball captain Sharelle McMahon has signed on as ambassador for the Mother Earth range of snack bars and nut products.

Mother Earth is the flagship brand of food manufacturer Prolife Foods New Zealand. The company has recently established an Australian headquarters, including opening  a 6,637 square metre processing and distribution facility in Altona in Melbourne, and the Mother Earth range is now widely available from Australian supermarkets.

McMahon will work with Mother Earth to promote its popular Baked Oaty Slices and Pingos products.

“Our snacks are made from real ingredients,” Prolife Foods CEO Andrew Smith said. “We ensure they are made with minimal processing and no artificial colours and flavours.

“We’re delighted and immensely proud that an elite athlete such as Sharelle McMahon is representing our product range. She is an inspiration to so many women and young girls in both Australian and New Zealand and the Prolife team is honoured to have an association with her.”

Ms McMahon is a three-times Commonwealth Games Medallist, including two gold medals. She played for Melbourne Phoenix for 11 seasons and then played and captained the Melbourne Vixens since their inaugural season in 2008 in the ANZ Championships. She retired from netball in August 2013 and is now working in the media and as a specialist coach.

“As an athlete and as a mother to a two-year-old, I am only too well aware of the importance of wholesome snacking,” she said. “I’m pleased to have the opportunity to promote the importance of making nutritious choices when it comes to snack foods and treats. It’s always an important message for all of us.”

Privately-owned Prolife Foods was founded in 1984 and is based in Hamilton, New Zealand. It acquired Mother Earth from Cadbury in 2008 and Mother Earth is now New Zealand’s most popular nutritious snack food brand.

Mr Smith said the appointment of Sharelle McMahon continued the company’s increasing investment in sales, distribution and marketing operations in Australia.

“And it’s not just the Mother Earth team in Australia that is proud and excited about our association with Sharelle. In New Zealand we’ve even forgiven her for captaining Australia to a 36-33 win against us.”
