News Corp Australasia executive chairman Michael Miller today announced that Kate de Brito has been appointed editor-in-chief of news.com.au.

de Brito joins the business from mamamia.com.au where she has been editor-in-chief since October 2015. She starts her new role in January 2017. Miller said: “News.com.au has pushed the boundaries with its agility and responsiveness in a news cycle that continues to accelerate and I’m delighted that Kate is returning to News Corp in the new role of editor-in-chief as we continue to grow the news.com.au audience. Kate’s digital news credentials will evolve news.com.au to greater growth.”

News.com.au managing director Julian Delany said: “News.com.au continues to expand by delivering the news in colour. We’re incredibly excited about the brand’s future and the opportunity to evolve our content and product along with pushing innovative commercial solutions. Having previously worked alongside Kate I’ve witnessed her commitment and passion for news. I have every confidence that Kate’s ability to steer a digital newsroom will ensure we continue to lead and set the national agenda.”

de Brito is a highly experienced editor with over 20-years in media working across digital, newspapers and magazines, in both Australia and New York. Ms de Brito was previously with News Corp Australia for over 10 years during which time she was head of digital for News Corp Australia’s editorial network; and news editor for news.com.au.

de Brito said: “This is a role I’ve aspired to for many years and I’m thrilled to return to News to lead the editorial strategy of Australia’s number one news website. Australian consumers’ value and trust news.com.au as seen by its incredible reach and engagement numbers. I’m excited to build on this success by leading an exceptional editorial team as we continue to drive and shape the news agenda, connecting with Australian audiences in an engaging and credible way.”

After two-and-a-half years as editor of news.com.au Daniel Sankey has been appointed to a new role to identify and develop opportunities for audience and commercial growth in digital sport and wagering information. Mr Sankey starts his new role in December and further details will be announced shortly.

Miller said: “Dan is an accomplished editor whose drive cemented news.com.au’s stature as #1 website in the country and I’m grateful for his contribution. I look forward to him bringing his digital experience and passion for sport to this growing market place for innovative sports and wagering information. This is an area of investment and growth for News Corp and Dan’s appointment reflects that commitment.”
