In a fun new campaign for Illumination’s upcoming movie Minions: The Rise of Gru, Oscar nominee Steve Carell has a go at auditioning for beloved Aussie children’s entertainers The Wiggles.
Carell, who voices the titular Gru in the movie, has a rather awkward interaction with The Wiggles as he attempts to convince them that he would be a good fit as the new yellow polo-wearing member of the ensemble.
Despite coming off as somewhat forward, he’s clearly a huge fan and can recite many of the lyrics to infamous Wiggles songs such as Big Red Car and Fruit Salad.
Founding member of The Wiggles, Anthony Field said, “It was so much fun filming with Steve, and we’d welcome him as an honorary Yellow Wiggle anytime! He knew all the words to our songs, and we’re big fans of The Minions, but we might have to have a word about his allergy to fruit salad!”
Minions: The Rise of Gru tells the origin story of how a 12-year-old Gru first met his iconic Minions, forged cinema’s most despicable crew and faced off against the most unstoppable criminal force ever assembled. Growing up in 1970s suburbia, Gru is the devoted fanboy of the supervillain supergroup, the Vicious 6, so when they oust their leader, Gru interviews to become their newest member. It doesn’t go well.
