Ford Germany has released a self-professed ‘very gay’ edition of its Raptor pick-up truck in response to homophobic comments.

After Ford released a new version of the Raptor in the shade ‘Performance Blue’, a social media commentor described the blue colour as ‘very Gay’, saying it should instead be painted black and gold or camo – despite colours not actually having a prescribed sexuality.

Ford took to social media to respond to the commnet – and went one step further, making a sparkly gold and rainbow version of the Raptor.

In a statement from its German head quarters, Ford wrote that the ‘Very Gay Raptor’ would be included in the city of Cologne’s annual Pride parade. According to Ford, the creation of the car took sixty hours and 30 square metres of specialist Alphafoil.

Ford also acknowledged that, “the Ford employee network GLOBE (Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual Employees) also celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. The network has been advocating the interests of lesbian, gay and bisexual employees since 1996 and actively helping to implement the Ford “Diversity” corporate philosophy in everyday working life.”

Back in 1998, the first year Ford participated in Cologne’s Pride parade, they decorated a Ford KA (pictured above left) in rainbow colours too.
