Figma, a collaborative product design and development platform, is opening an office in Sydney, its first in Australia.
The opening of Figma’s Sydney office will deepen relationships with its growing local community and customers, such as Telstra and Atlassian, who is also a Figma integration partner and investor.
Beyond Atlassian and Telstra, current customers include Coles, EndeavourX, and Safety Culture. Launch events scheduled to mark Sydney’s office launch and the first Friends of Figma event in Melbourne this week have seen an overwhelming response, with almost a thousand RSVPs to attend.
”What drew us to Australia is its vibrant and fast-growing community of passionate designers, we’re also seeing this play out with more companies investing in design,” said Dylan Field, CEO and co-founder of Figma.
“This new office represents our deep and ongoing commitment to Australia and our belief that being closer to our users helps us build better products and continue innovating with their needs at the forefront”.
As a global company, Figma has over 85 per cent of its users based outside the United States. More than half of Figma’s revenue comes from markets outside the U.S. The company has opened offices in New York, Tokyo, Singapore, London, Paris, and Berlin.
The Sydney launch coincides with Figma’s expansion of AI capabilities and the unification of its products into one platform.
“AI lowers the barrier to entry in design and product development, making it easier for people who aren’t fluent in design or product building to participate in the process. At the same time, AI can also raise the ceiling for what’s possible in design, enabling professional to push the limits of product design and the borders of creativity even further,” said Noah Levin, Figma’s VP of design.
Figma has evolved from a design tool into a comprehensive platform that enables collaboration across the product development process – from early-stage ideation to development and code.
With the recent launch of FigJam, teams can use to brainstorm and collaborate to refine designs or create prototypes in Figma Design, and bridge the gap between design and development with Dev Mode. Figma has also leveraged AI to accelerate the product development process, particularly through the introduction of FigJam AI in 2023 and Figma AI in 2024.
“As software development continues to grow exponentially, design will be a key differentiator and will be how companies win or lose. Companies are rapidly recognising that design is more than how something looks, it’s also how it works,” added Field.
