BeReal, in a move that seemingly goes against its own name, has launched RealPeople — a feed dedicated to featuring “top athletes, artists, activists and everything in between.”
The photo-sharing app, which has rocketed in popularity in recent months, said that the new feed wants to “eliminate society’s notion that public figures live in an altered, filtered universe” and to help “bring out all the things we enjoy about a connected human experience.”
However, the platform, which does not take advertising money or work with brands and is instead entirely privately funded, has said that the new feed “isn’t about influencing, amassing likes or comments, or promoting brands.”
It also went further to say that users will not see “perfect photoshopped pictures, product recommendations, or ads disguised as posts.” We’ll see how long that lasts.
Users will be able to find the ‘RealPeople’ in the app’s Discovery tab. Users will only be able to react to RealPeople posts with a 🤠 and, at launch, users will only see the emoji reaction that they posted.
The UK is getting the trial feature first before it expands around the world very soon. However, the company provided no information on who exactly will be deigned to feature on the RealPeople feed.
BeReal had previously said that “Using BeReal won’t make you famous.”
