Awarded Director Corrie Chen Joins SO Productions

Corrie Chen, awarded director and a member of Screen Australia’s Gender Taskforce joins SO’s expanding roster.

Named a rising talent by Inside Film magazine, Corrie Chen is a filmmaker who’s skilled at handling subtle and nuanced storytelling. Using wit and intelligence, her films often deal with the themes of identity and belonging.

An ADG award-winning, AACTA-nominated filmmaker, her work has screened all around the world. Internationally she’s been mentored by acclaimed filmmakers James Schamus (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), and Christopher Doyle cinematographer, Chungking Express) as part of Berlinale Talents.

And locally, she’s part of Screen Australia’s Gender Taskforce as part of the Gender Matters Initiative – pioneering for a greater breadth of stories and further diversity on our screens.

Her work has screened on SBS and the ABC, and she’s been involved in local success stories Nowhere BoysThe Family Law, GlitchMaximum Choppage, Please Like Me and Secret City via director’s attachments and writing placements. Currently, she’s developing a web series adaptation of the award winning Young Adult novel series This is Shyness with Screen Australia.
