A tense sing-off and One Direction lifted Seven to a massive 42.9% share of all free-to-air TV viewers last night as The X Factor Grand Final wooed more than two million people.

Seven dominated television sets across the country from 6 to 9.45pm last night with The X Factor Grand Final watched by 2.02 million viewers.

At 6pm, before The X Factor kicked off, 1.457 million tuned in to see Seven News and 1.391 stayed on Seven after The X Factor to see The Blacklist, according to OzTam’s preliminary metro ratings.

The Blacklist was moved from its normal Monday slot to Sunday evening.

Nine’s Australia’s Got Talent sat in ninth place with 712,000 viewers and the network’s most watched show was Nine News (997,000).

60 Minutes sat in fifth place with 830,000. Nine’s only other top 20 program was Angelina Jolie’s movie Salt (472,000).

Ten’s most watched show was Modern Family. At 7.30 pm it came fourth, also behind the ABC’s Kakadu (771,000), with 710,000 viewers.

Other top 20 Ten shows included a repeat of Modern Family (594,000), Elementary (545,000), Ten Eyewitness News (443,000) and Attenborough’s Ark (439,000).

The Seven Network’s primary channel, Channel 7, took a whopping 35.2% share of all viewers on Sunday night.

The result left Nine with just 16.1% and 21.5% of viewers across its network.

Ten took a total 15.6% with 10.1% to its main channel. The ABC sat behind the commercial networks, winning a total 15.1% and 11.8% for ABC1.
