John Sintras has been promoted to the role of chairman of the Starcom MediaVest Group with current chief operating officer Chris Nolan stepping up to the CEO role.

Sintras’ new title will be chairman of SMG Australia and director, global experience product, with both appointments made effective immediately.

Laura Desmond, Global CEO, Starcom MediaVest Group, said: “Both John and Chris are exceptionally creative individuals who share a common vision of the entire SMG network.

“We are excited to see what they will bring to the table in their new roles and congratulate them on these latest accomplishments.”

In the new role Sintras will still be based in Sydney, but will be responsible for evolving the global product for the agency group and pioneer work in the 110 offices worldwide.

He said: “I am delighted to have the chance to work across our global network in such a key role, while at the same time continuing to contribute to the Australian agency and clients that I know and love. I’m particularly pleased that this has provided the opportunity to elevate Chris Nolan, whom I consider one of the industry’s brightest stars, to the CEO’s role.”

Nolan will take on day-to-day operations for the network, which he has been with for four years.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge of leading Starcom, building on the loyalty of our existing client portfolio and our recent new business success.

“We have an expanding and inspiring national team who are really helping our clients leverage change and seize the opportunities in this dynamic yet challenging business environment”.

The agency achieved considerable success last year, landing the Optus account and consolidating the Wrigley and Mars accounts, and is involved in the final stages of the pitch for BMW’s account.
