Lukis and Stynes hit the airwaves this morning

Sydney’s first all-female breakfast show, Sami Lukis and Yumi Stynes, kicked off this morning on Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) Mix 106.5.

The pairs’ first morning on air comes more than a week after the first official radio ratings period for the year started.

ARN announced the new breakfast duo in early December along with the new drive show with Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross.

In a statement Duncan Campbell, ARN’s national content director, said: "We're looking forward to launching this first-of-its-kind breakfast show in the competitive Sydney market.”

“Their outlooks on life make for compelling content and after the success of our breakfast show in Melbourne with Chrissie Swan and Jane Hall, this is another step forward for the Mix Network.”

Swan and Hall have been on-air together since early last year and in the final ratings survey of 2012 the team added 0.6 points to take 6.3% of the breakfast market.

ARN hopes Lukis and Stynes will appeal to a range of listeners within its core 35-44 year old female demographic with Lukis currently dating and Stynes recently married with two daughters.

Stynes, who moved to Sydney from Melbourne earlier this month, said: “We’re very different people with our own take on life but we feel like we’ve been friends for years.”

Lukis added: “I think our upcoming interviews will really benefit from this new dynamic – being interviewed by two women has the potential to be a little disarming so hopefully our guests will really open up.”

The breakfast role is a media comeback for Stynes who was dropped from Mix FM’s national program the 3PM Pick-Up last year. Stynes lost her spot on the program after she mocked SAS war hero, Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith, on the now axed Ten program, The Circle.
