Luke McIlveen appointed editor of Daily Mail Australia

Luke McIlveen has been appointed editor of the Daily Mail Australia commencing immediately following his role of editor of news.com.au.

“Campaigning journalism and editorial integrity are what the MailOnline is renowned for, and I look forward to continuing this tradition by telling the local stories that are of the utmost importance to Australians,” McIlveen said.

“At the Daily Mail Australia we will always put the reader at the heart of the story. We’ll publish the news Australians need, alongside the stories that they’ll want to comment on and share. It will truly be the best of the global MailOnline seen through the eyes of Australians.”

Martin Clarke, publisher and editor-in-chief of MailOnline added: “Australia is the third market that the MailOnline has entered, so we wanted an editor who would understand the audience and provide them with stories that will inform, entertain and set the day’s agenda.

The confirmation of McIlveen as editor follows the appointment of Mikaela Lancaster as general manager of the Daily Mail Australia last December after Mi9 and DMG media announced the site was coming Down Under late last year.

Beginning his journalism career as a copyboy for News Corp in 1996, McIlveen has held a number of senior editorial roles amongst various publications such as editor at The Manly Daily and news editor at The Daily Telegraph
