News Limited’s Sunday Mail has parted ways with editor Megan Lloyd, with news.com.au’s editor David Penberthy taking the helm of the Adelaide paper.

Details have not been released about the circumstances of Lloyd’s exit, but News has pushed out a statement today praising Penberthy as “one of the company’s true multi-media editors”.

Ina  statement News’ CEO Kim Williams said: “David is one of our most exceptional journalistic talents and has had an outstanding career as a reporter, columnist and editor across all platforms,” Mr Williams said.

“He has a demonstrated appreciation of the need and interests of our customers. This, combined with his creative, innovative vision makes him the ideal editor for the Sunday Mail.

“I am delighted he has accepted this position and that he has agreed to continue to pen his weekly column which is essential Sunday reading across the country.”

The paper saw a 5.4% drop in the last round of Audit Bureau of Circulation figures, one of the smallest of all the Sunday papers.

Penberthy said: “I am terrifically excited by this opportunity, and especially excited at being given the chance to edit both in my own hometown and the birthplace of our business.

“The Sunday Mail has been an integral part of life in South Australia for 100 years and is a much-loved brand. Along with The ‘Tiser, it is the paper I grew up with.

“We have a great team and I am really looking forward to delivering to our consumers agenda-setting stories from across our national network in both our printed and digital channels.”
