Twitter’s VP of US client solutions, Robin Wheeler, and head of trust and safety, Yoel Roth, have left the company.
The pair have left the company less than a day after hosting a Twitter Space with new CEO Elon Musk which was designed to publicly address concerns of advertisers and users.
The news was broken by Platformer’s Zoe Schiffer and Casey Newton, the news was confirmed to The Verge’s Alex Heath by two people familiar with the matter. Bloomberg says that the two executives jumped, rather than being pushed.
Both the leaders had been taking very public roles in the days since Musk took over Twitter. Roth had been tweeting constantly about the company’s approach to content moderation and how there would be no significant changes under Musk’s ownership, despite a five-fold increase in tweets containing the “n-word” in the hours after Musk took control.
Robin Wheeler, meanwhile, had been surfacing content from other execs and Twitter staff about content moderation and meeting with big advertisers to assuage their fears about the platform moving forward. Advertisers had reportedly been pulling their spend from the platform with concerns around brand safety.
Musk’s flagship policy since taking control of Twitter has been to pivot the company to a subscription model, with any users able to verify their account for US$8 per month. The Tesla CEO has ripped up Twitter’s verification system, allowing non-famous people to receive the coveted blue tick in an effort to reduce disinformation.
Twitter has not replied to requests for comment as the company no longer has a comms department.
