In 2004, two legendary Australian icons officially took off: low-fares carrier Jetstar and the people’s champion (although runner-up) of Australian Idol, Shannon Noll.
To celebrate their collective 22nd anniversary, Jetstar and creative company Thinkerbell teamed up to throw the ultimate high-altitude birthday bash, inviting an entire cabin of Nollsie look-alikes on board.
Tickets for the Shannon Noll party flight to Townsville were $22 and sold out within hours, with thousands of dollars of Flight Vouchers up for grabs onboard.
The party kicked off at Sydney Airport, before boarding the time capsule of 2004 childhood birthday nostalgia to Townsville. Passengers were then treated to an intimate, live acoustic performance by Shannon Noll himself at 30,000 feet. The flight culminated in a fierce look-a-like contest, where passenger Grace Cheatley was crowned the ultimate Noll.
The activation is the latest in an ongoing program of work for the airline, aimed at driving brand fame. By creating likeable moments, it showcases the fun of low fare travel unique to Jetstar.
Thinkerbell head earned thinker, Anna Craven added: “We wanted this campaign to blur the lines between an earned stunt and a piece of entertainment that could seamlessly stretch across Jetstar’s content ecosystem, from its owned social feed, to creators, to news media. From Today Show and Sunrise, to prime time news, it shows celebrating traditional brand milestones is still possible when injected with talkable creativity.
Jetstar is all about bringing people together for fun, affordable experiences, and nothing says ‘fun’ quite like a cabin full of soul patches singing What About Me in mid-air.”
