Designworks Sydney has added two new hires in a bid to expand the agency in brand transformation and strategic design.

Starting immediately, Mick Boston has joined Designworks Sydney as design director, and David Evans as senior account director.

Boston joins the agency from RE: (part of M&C Saatchi Sydney), where he has spent the past five years working on the creation and direction of a range of major brands including the rebrand of ANZ and the Commonwealth Bank.  He also spent more than seven years as senior designer at The One Centre.

Designworks Sydney creative director Kasia Wydrowski said Boston has been tasked with playing a strong ‘brand guardian’ role within the agency, leading teams and clients in the design direction of their brands.

“Mick has a thorough understanding of design as a journey – not just a destination. This approach is very closely aligned to the Designworks philosophy to have strategy and design work hand in hand to achieve transformational brand and customer experiences.  It’s brilliant to have someone of his calibre join the agency and we’re excited about the potential outcomes that his skills can create,” she said.

With more than 12 years branding experience across the corporate, consumer and FMCG sectors, Evans has worked both agency and client-side.  He joins Designworks from Marque Brand Consultants where he specialised in new brand creation.  He also founded the Studio Strategy Group within the Global Strategic Design Office (GSDO) for Johnson & Johnson in New York where he spent four years.

Evans will work across a range of major brands including Woolworths, Stockland and Dorf.

“David has a real strength in guiding clients through the strategic development of their brands,” said Designworks Sydney general manager Clair van Veen.  “We’re excited to have him join our team and believe his international and new brand experience will be a powerful proposition for our portfolio of clients.

“Their appointments, along with other recent senior hires made across the Designworks Australia team puts the group in an incredible position to continue its strong pattern of growth into 2015,” van Veen concluded.
