Independent Melbourne agency Town Square has hired former PHD executive Matt Altis as head of media.

The appointment follows a significant run of media pitch wins for Town Square, with Altis the first of several hires slated to expand the agency’s media team in the coming months.

In his new role Altis will provide strategic media and product leadership to deliver commercial results for Town Square’s clients and bring media and creative together to drive greater effectiveness. His remit spans planning, process optimisation, operational excellence, and driving innovative media opportunities across its client portfolio.

Danielle Moeller, founder and director at Town Square, said: “We’ve had a significant number of media pitch wins recently, which is a massive validation of the direction we are heading. Our full service clients understand the benefit of having media and creative working together, fuelling better results for their business. It means we’re closer to our client, we understand the commitments they’ve made to their own business, and everyone is focused on delivering client outcomes rather than protecting competing agency P&Ls. Hiring Matt is a major step in bolstering our capabilities and our investment into media. He has a brilliant strategic mind and the exact experience we need to take our integrated creative and media offering even further.”

Altis joins Town Square with over 15 years of experience leading multi-million-dollar clients, with the bulk of his career spent at PHD, alongside periods at Initiative. He most recently worked at PHD as business director for the Asahi Group, where he was the strategic portfolio planning lead responsible for advising media and investment decisions. He has also led media strategy for a number of other major blue-chip brands including Energy Australia, ANZ, Priceline and Porsche.

Commenting on his new role, he said: “Town Square has a track record of delivering results for clients for more than 20 years, yet it still has a genuine challenger mindset, that’s what drew me to the agency.”

“Add to that an exceptional client roster and a model where media and creative already work hand in hand, and it was an easy decision. It’s an incredibly exciting time to be joining, with the agency experiencing a period of significant growth, particularly across media, and there is a genuine, infectious momentum in the building. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to build on that success and I look forward to bringing my experience in driving results for our clients and playing a part in this next chapter of the agency’s growth.”
