Kyle Sandilands has landed a new gig away from his day job of saying controversial things to thousands of listeners on the radio, with the shock jock lending his voice to a new Aussie reality TV show.

Sandilands is set to play narrator for new series Meet the Hockers, an Australian take on the US reality show Pawn Stars, to be aired on Channel Nine’s digital channel, Go!.

Filming of the eight-part local version has already begun, according to reports from News Corp, after Sandilands filmed a pilot for the show last year. The program centres around the Aceben pawnshop chain in Sydney, with the radio host still deliberating on whether or not to appear on screen for the show.

The series was pitched to Nine by Sandilands, former producer of The Voice Peter Abbott and Sandilands’ business manager Andy Hawkins, News Corp claims.

The US Pawn Stars program films the interactions between staff and customers at various pawn shops, and the items they bring in to negotiate with.

It wouldn’t be Sandilands’ first stint on the small screen, after he became a judge on Ten’s Australian Idol in 2005, but in 2009 Ten gave him the chop after the lie detector incident on the Kyle and Jackie O radio show where he interrogated a teenager on her sexual history live on air while her mum listened in.

But he was back in 2010 as a judge on a new network, joining Channel Seven for Australia’s Got Talent, before jumping a few months later onto the second series of The X Factor as judge. Sandilands ditched that gig in 2011.
