Taking home the Marketing Award at B&T’s Women in Media Awards 2026, Emily Meier-Murren has reflected on why being given the task of building Carma’s marketing function from the ground up was “a golden opportunity”.
Speaking with B&T following her award win, Meier-Murren explained that after seven years at Domain and four different roles within the business, she was looking for an opportunity to build something entirely from scratch.
At the time she joined Carma, a digital marketplace and dealership for buying and selling second-hand cars, the business was Australia’s highest-funded startup following its Series A and Series B funding rounds.

But it was the opportunity to help transform an industry that she described as “so broken” that ultimately drew her in.
“If anyone’s ever bought a pre-owned car, people know how much of an arduous, awful experience that is,” Meier-Murren told B&T.
“I was just really enamoured by the opportunity to go in and build the brand, build the team, build the strategy, work with agencies, and build our partnerships. “It just felt like an absolute golden opportunity.”

Since joining the business, Meier-Murren has built Carma’s marketing function from the ground up, recruiting a team of eight specialists, including two women in the most senior roles within the team.
She has also focused on creating an environment where curiosity, learning and bold thinking are not just encouraged, but embedded into the way the team works.
The result has been a marketing team capable of moving quickly and delivering high-impact campaigns in weeks rather than months.
