‘Being A Mum Is Okay’: Glass Ceiling Award Winner Erin Ferreira On Why Motherhood Should Never Be A Barrier

Fox Sports general manager Erin Ferreira (now Kayo Sports, of course) has called for greater visibility of the career opportunities available to women in sports media, stressing that motherhood should not be a barrier to building a successful career in the industry.

Taking home the Glass Ceiling Award at B&T’s recent Women in Media Awards, presented by Are Media, was Fox Sports general manager Erin Ferreira.

In an interview with B&T following her win, Ferreira was asked what more needs to be done in the industry.

“Opening up the curtains and letting everybody know that it is a place where you can come and cultivate a career,” she said. “It is a place that has an opportunity for you, no matter who you are and what you want to achieve, and that being a mom is okay.”

A mother of two herself, Ferreira said she was proud to have been supported in balancing motherhood with her career, and believes her experience as a parent has strengthened her leadership.

“It gives you that perspective when you’re dealing with people, that EQ, that ability to be able to see what’s really at stake and what matters in those moments to those people and be able to guide them.”

Ferreira’s own career provides an example of the pathway she wants other women to see as possible.

After working as a producer at South African broadcaster SuperSport, Ferreira joined Fox Sports in 2019 and went on to become the network’s first female executive producer before stepping into her current role as general manager.

Ferreira has also played a significant role in elevating the profile of women’s sport throughout her time at Fox Sports.

For Ferreira, however, increasing female representation starts with making sure women can see themselves in the industry in the first place.

I’m a mom of two and I’m incredibly proud of of that fact,” she said.

“I’ve been given a place to own that and be able to run with it and be supported.”
