More 3.2 million fans tuned in to watch Socceroos heartbreak after falling to Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shoot out at the World Cup on Saturday morning.
The round of 16 match, which kicked off at 4am, reached 3 million viewers during normal time with an average audience of 1.95 million. When scores were locked at 1-1 and the Socceroos toiled in extra time and into penalties, the match reached 3.2 million (under the programming slot prevously allocated for Wogball: Australia’s Beautiful Game.
The game’s TV audience fell short of the Socceroos previous fixtures in this World Cup (4.84 million against Paraguay, 4.75 million versus Turkiye and 3.45 million against US), but was also played at the earliest time of all four Socceroos fixtures.
On Sunday, Nine’s Lego Masters Bricktacular won prime time with a Total TV National Reach of 2,014,000 and an average audience of 736,000. The four-episode special sees returning builders and past champions compete in teams of three for a chance to win a $100,000 prize, hosted by Hamish Blake alongside judge Ryan McNaught.
Seven’s Farmer Wants A Wife wasn’t far behind with a national reach of 1,987,000 and an average audience of 990,000. Last night’s episode delivered a season-first moment, with Farmer Alex telling Eddy he loves her.
Over on SBS, the World Cup Round of 16 clash between Paraguay and France had a national reach of 1,704,000 with an average audience of 775,000. France won the match 1-0 with Mbappé converting a second-half penalty to send his team through to the quarter-finals. SBS also aired a repeat of the earlier Portugal v Croatia clash, which Portugal won 2-1, which pulled in a reach of 738,000 and had an average audience of 183,000.
Nine’s Sunday Afternoon NRL Live coverage had a national reach of 1,316,000 with an average audience of 552,000, as Manly Sea Eagles edged out Parramatta Eels 8-6.
Ten’s MasterChef Australia continued its run in eleventh place with a national reach of 1,020,000 and an average audience of 618,000. The nine remaining contestants welcomed Indian chef Sanjeev Kapoor into the kitchen for a special Mystery Box challenge, with the standout cooks earning a major advantage.
ABC’s Race Around The World rounded out the top fifteen with a national reach of 905,000 and an average audience of 508,000. The revived 90s format, saw six filmmakers converge on the same country for the first time this season.
