TV Ratings: The Ashes and The Bachelor

As the bachelorettes dished the dirt on Tim Robards viewers tuned in with The Bachelor Australia – After the Final Rose coming second its 7.30pm timeslot.

The last instalment of The Bachelor for 2013 pulled in 768,000 viewers to Ten, according to OzTam’s preliminary metro ratings.

The decent turnout follows the previous evening’s finale which saw the final half of The Bachelor win over 1.186 million fans.

In sixth place it was the second most watched entertainment property overall behind Home and Away (976,000).

It did come second to A Current Affair which at 7.30pm pulled in 959,000 viewers to Nine.

Nine’s broadcast of The Ashes first test was viewed by 584,000.

The afternoon sports broadcast didn’t win Nine the ratings, the network sat just behind rival Seven’s total 28.6% share of all free-to-air viewers with 28.2%.

Seven’s main channel won 20.3% while Nine’s primary channel took 18.9%.

Nine beat Seven in the 8pm slot with The Big Bang Theory winning 682,000 viewers compared to 610,000 for How I Met Your Mother.

But Seven took 8.30pm from Nine with Beauty and The Geek Australia (624,000) coming second to the tail end of The Bachelor. Nine’s Top Gear took 480,000 viewers.

Ten was third in the commercial ratings overall, sitting on a total 20.1% share of viewers with 14.4% for the network’s main channel.

ABC took a combined 16.5% with 10.2% for ABC1 while SBS won 6.7% with 5.6% for SBS One.
