Overnight the TV ratings was dominated by sport. From the World Cup, AFL to the Under 19’s State of Origin viewers were spoilt for choice.
But it was SBS’ 6am broadcast of England’s 4-2 triumph over Croatia that topped the ratings with a total TV national reach of 1.697 million an average audience of 806 thousand and a BVOD national average audience of 503 thousand.
It was a perfect start for England in its World Cup campaign, who claimed a two goal victory thanks to second-half goals by Jude Bellingham and substitute Marcus Rashford. Prior to the secong half brilliance, the team were starring down the barrel of a draw with both sides locked up at two goals a piece.
England are next in action against Ghana on Wednesday, and Croatia also in action on Wednesday will look to get its campaign back on track with a win over Panama.
The World Cup broadcast between two titans of football just edged out the AFL. Seven’s coverage of the Fremantle Dockers and the Geelong Cats raked in a reach of 1.69 million and an average audience of 774 thousand.
The night belonged to Fremantle who came back from a 28 point deficit to claim its 13th straight victory.
And over on Nine, the future of the NRL was on show with the Under 9’s State of Origin. Similar to the men on Wednesday night, the match went in favour of Queensland who ran in five tries to two, to claim a 28-14 victory.
Its reach of 1.268 million helped Nine claim eighth spot on OzTam’s ratings.
