It was a massive night for footy last night, with the AFL taking out the top spot overall with a total TV national reach of 2,293,000 – beating both Seven and Nine News. Audiences tuned out slowly, but the national average of 879,000 still placed the game in a solid fourth place overall.
The Four’N Twenty Legends Game for Prostate Cancer saw several AFL legends returning to the field for the first time since 2019, raising funds to support patient care at vital prostate cancer research collaborations at the Australian Prostate Centre.
Over on Nine, it was the NRL that did the numbers with a total TV national reach of 1,453,000. The disappointing game for both sides led to a drop off of numbers with an average of just 665,000.
It was an abysmal showing from the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, who, despite having all odds fall in their favour, still struggled to leave a memorable impact on the depleted Penrith Panthers side. With Penrith resting almost all of their starting line-up and a remarkable six debutants on the field, the dogs still struggled and with 1:7 odds, the 28-scoreline did little to calm nervous Bulldogs fans as they approach the finals series.
