Thursday TV Wrap: 316,000 Tune In For England-Croatia Match

Some 316,000 SBS viewers set the alarm for 4am to tune into yesterday’s World Cup semi-final between England and Croatia, the number rising to 446,000 for the post-match coverage.

Meanwhile, in the UK, some 26.6 million people watched the game on TV or 84 per cent of all TV viewers.

Sadly, it wasn’t enough to markedly dint SBS’ audience share last night, the broadcaster managing a mere 8.5 per cent last night.

Seven took the honours with an impressive 36.4 per cent share markedly boosted by its multi channels. Nine had to settle for 22.5 per cent, Ten pinched 19.5 per cent and the ABC took 13 per cent.

Once again, Seven’s 6pm news was the most watched show of the evening but still fell under the million-mark (975,000). Other standouts for Seven were Home And Away (604,000), The Chase (591,000) and the AFL in three cities (565,000.

Nine arguably suffered from a lacklustre line-up, its best was its 6pm news (916,000), ACA (706,000), Hot Seat (506,000) and RBT (447,000).

Over at Ten, MasterChef (736,000) did the business, followed by MasterChef Masterclass (486,000) and The Project (476,000).

ABC’s night went thus: 7pm news (668,000), 7.30 (419,000), Grand Designs Australia (397,000) and Think Tank (218,000).

The soccer aside, SBS’s other highlight was The Handmaid’s Tale with 267,000.
