Born‘s relentless rise continues after picking up last year’s Emerging Agency of the Year at last year’s B&T Awards. This year, the agency won Independent Agency – Fewer Than 50 Employees.
Born was recognised for its work that has helped transform brands, prioritising creative excellence and brand strategy, all while maintaining work-life balance and investing in its staff.
The agency’s ethos of ‘narrative theory’ allows them to “understand how brands feel—the relationship people have with brands go beyond their relationship with them transactionally, and it’s the story they share with customers,” Born’s founder David Coupland said.

Born’s work for Unity Bank helped turn it into one of Australia’s fastest-growing banks and its new brand platform for Yo-Chi has seen it expand its growth and scale, expanding to Singapore this year.
Born started as an agency of three people in a tiny office. Now, it’s grown to 12, with staff housed in Surry Hills. It also opened a studio in Adelaide, after spotting a gap in the market. In the past year, several big clients have joined its ranks, and its revenues have grown spectacularly.
Despite that growth, the agency has maintained its culture focused on work-life balance. Realistic project planning allow staff to clock out at 5 pm and have time for other pursuits and responsibilities. Born sent its art director to AWARD School and plans for all its creatives to do the same. It continues to offer low-bono services to brands supporting LGBTQI+ initiatives.
