American rap artist and hydroponics expert, Snoop Dogg, has managed to get the Wollongong locals, south of Sydney, offside without even trying.
Mr Dogg, of course, is the face of food delivery service Menulog.
And a large billboard has just been erected in the town declaring “get delivery like a G” but with “Woollongong” spelt incorrectly.
Even odder, beneath the billboard is another ad for the “Thursday night” running of the “Dapto greyhounds”, with many asking which of the two dogs featured was more doped up?
Meanwhile, others speculated that the ad’s typo was actually a deliberate mistake to catch passerby’s attention.
Local newspaper The Illawarra Mercury contacted Menulog about the error and to determine if it really was intentional.
The initial reaction from Menulog marketing director Simon Cheng was “Whooops” with an extra O.
The newspaper reporting: “The company said it was on the case and to stay tuned for an update in a couple of days.”
However, social media users smelt a rat, suggesting the typo was deliberate to generate more publicity.
“Well. it’s getting noticed and lots of free publicity,” penned one.
“Mistake or marketing brilliance as this has been more posted than it would have if it was correct spelling,” said another.
While another added: “Ha! I know the agency that did this and NOT surprised.”
