SBS has announced it will continue to simulcast the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Optus until the end of the tournament on Monday 16 July.

The announcement comes after SBS was forced to help out Optus by broadcasting the remainder of the tournament’s group stage – which finishes up tomorrow – due to technical faults plaguing the telco’s streaming service.

Matches broadcast on SBS will also be live streamed via the official FIFA World Cup app, on The World Game website and through SBS On Demand.

SBS chief executive and managing director Michael Ebeid said: “We’re pleased to be able to simulcast more of the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches with Optus.

“With eight million Australians tuning into SBS’s coverage to date, we know how passionate the country is about the world game and are confident fans will continue to engage with the matches as we head towards the end of the competition in Russia.”

SBS will continue to broadcast daily highlights on FIFA World Cup Today live from Red Square at 5.30pm each match day with expert analysis from Craig Foster and Lucy Zelić, and commentary from Martin Tyler, as well as replays of the SBS Match of the Day each morning at 6.30am.
