B&T’s Most Read Stories Of 2016: A Swearing Weather Girl, Adult Toys & George Clooney

It’s that time again when B&T staff have either checked out early or are battling their way to the finish line that is Christmas break. So what better time to round up the most read (and ridiculous) stories from 2016.

Whether it’s a hoax article about a profanity-spewing BBC weather girl, George Clooney copping a beating in a Nespresso ad or just our hotly anticipated awards stories, here’s a countdown of the top 20 stories we penned this year.

Merry Christmas from the B&T team!

1. BBC Weather Girl

It’s the gift the keeps on giving – B&T’s coverage of a fake article in which a BBC weather presenter said it was “cold as fuck”, among other pleasantries.

2. B&T 30 Under 30 Shortlist

All you young guns hoping to take the crown at our coveted annual 30 Under 30 awards clearly got clicking on this one.

3. Clooney Gets Beat Up

4. 30 Under 30 People’s Choice

It’s the award the people get to vote on, and the millennials led the charge on this front for 30 Under 30.

5. An oddly named sporting mascot

The UEFA Euro 2016 organisers were red-faced when they discovered their mascot, Super Victor, is also the name for a well-endowed dildo.

6. Seven’s struggling Zumbo’s Just Desserts

While it turned into a bit of a witch hunt thanks to B&T’s editor, the launch story of Zumbo’s Just Desserts turned out to be quite popular.

7. Those relentless lamb ads apparently aren’t working

Despite all the MLA ads and Australia Day spots, a study showed that Aussies still aren’t eating as much meat as they’d hoped.

8. 30 Under 30 Winners

Again, it’s our beloved millennials who brought it home on the story of our prestigious 30 Under 30 winners.

9. Air New Zealand’s talking duck

A talking duck? Catching a plane? Yep, this one got you guys watching.

10. ALDI’s poor choice of social campaign

One from earlier this year that saw a slight slip up in ALDI’s social media management, which in turn resulted in a hilarious string of responses from Twitter.

11. M&C Saatchi’s burlesque soiree

You all know – that party – that got the entire industry talking. B&T’s editor penned this response to the furore.

12. 16 Jingles to make you nostalgic

Proving that B&T remains relevant for years, this little piece from 2014 made the top most read articles of 2016.

13. Dick Smith takes on Waleed Aly

Controversial business tycoon Dick Smith gave The Project host a bit of what’s for earlier this month.

14. Ten’s ‘I’m A Celebrity’ teaser

With rumours that old Barnesy would be heading into the jungle, readers couldn’t resist this one.

15. Women in Media shortlist

Congrats to all the fab women who made the shortlist – and to those who just missed out – you’re not only great traffic drivers but industry movers and shakers too.
