Zumbo Overcooked As Show Suffers Worst Ratings Since Debut

As keen readers of B&T would know we’ve been keeping an eagle-eye on Channel Seven’s much vaunted pastry program Zumbo’s Just Desserts.

And, as some of you have duly noted and even emailed in, we’d not hung any shit on it for over a week now. But the truce may well be over, because last night’s figures were the lowest the show has seen since its debut.

According to OzTAM figures, Zumbo scraped just 657,000 viewers in the metro region last night, coming in 18th on the leaderboard behind rival network shows like Australian Survivor (662,000), Married At First Sight (843,000) and The Block (903,000), which took the crown for best entertainment program of the night.

Seven managed five shows in the top 20 overnight, with Seven News leading the pack, however it was Nine that boasted the highest – six shows – on the ratings leaderboard, three of which held down spots in the top five.

It comes just as we questioned if we’d been too hard on old Zumbo and his Just Desserts, with the show lifting in audience ratings the past few episodes to hold a steady audience of around the 800,000 mark.

Last Wednesday’s episode saw 880,000 metro viewers tune in to watch it on free-to-air, ahead of Nine’s Married at First Site (810,000) and The Block (792,000), as well as Ten’s Australian Survivor (728,000).

But after last night’s plummet, we wonder if perhaps Zumbo’s Just Desserts has lost its magic touch and is officially overcooked.
