In surprise social media news today comes the shock announcement of Bebo’s imminent return.
Bebo, which was launched in 2005, enjoyed a relatively brief run of popularity in the mid-2000s, racing to 80 million unique users by 2008.
It was even the most popular social media site in the UK in 2007.
And while Bebo looked destined for greatness – as we now know – Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook had another idea.
Facebook’s continued rise through the 2010s ultimately led to Bebo’s demise, with the company filing for bankruptcy in 2013.
So how can Bebo suddenly be making a comeback eight years later?
It isn’t exactly clear what Bebo 2.0 will look like, however, the platform is billing itself as a “brand new social network”.
“This is a totally new site developed by the original founders. All the old accounts are long gone (probably for the better, though sorry for the old photos!),” the site reads.
“On the good news front, Trump is banned from bebo before we’ve even launched. The world really IS moving forward!”
Bebo is currently in private beta and requires a password to be accessed.
