Last night, A Current Affair detailed the shocking details of a daycare centre cover-up, wherein a staff member tripped and fell while holding a baby, who was later found to have a greenstick fracture to the top of his femur, which the hospital initially blamed on the baby’s parents.

Eight-month-old Luke was being carried by childcare worker Mira Jayme when she tripped and fell. CCTV footage showed Jayme picking up the baby and continuing on as if nothing had happened.

Staff at the Playbase Early Learning Centre in Dapto, south of Sydney, called Luke’s parents, Gary and Rosie, asking them to pick him up.

“When I picked him up, he was visibly out of sorts,” Rosie said.

The next day, he was still out of sorts and had a bruise above his knee.

Gary and Rosie took Luke to Wollongong Hospital, expecting him to be X-rayed, but hospital staff didn’t want to expose him to radiation at such a young age, so they were sent home with Panadol.

The parents then visited their local GP, who insisted they get an X-ray for Luke. It was found that Luke had a greenstick fracture to the top of his femur.

Rosie called the childcare centre with a simple question. “Can you please look, go back to the staff, look at the cameras, please,” she asked them.

Rosie said the director of the childcare centre told her there was no video available that she could see, and staff advised her that nothing had happened.

It was when the young family arrived back at Wollongong hospital that Gary and Rosie’s world fell apart: the staff suspected them of abusing Luke.

They weren’t allowed to take Luke home, and the police were called.

“I don’t think, as a mother, I’ve ever felt more broken,” Rosie said.

Luke ended up staying in the hospital for two nights. The next day, Child Abuse Squad detectives contacted the couple and told them evidence had been discovered which cleared them, after police had examined the daycare centre’s CCTV and discovered the footage of Jayme.

She was charged with neglecting a child in care – a charge carrying a maximum of two years’ jail.

The episode brought in a Total TV National Reach of 1,884,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 1,225,000 for Nine.

Also on Nine, The Block’s kitchen week prepping managed to stir up all sorts of stresses and dramas.

Each team brought out the big guns for one of the show’s most important weeks, but Foreman Dan has already spotted an issue.

In House 2, he questioned the height of the curved Venetian plaster rangehood, the main feature of the space. Dan advised it’s far too low. Unfortunately, it was too late to change it, so they carried on, hoping that their future buyer will be a shorter-than-average chef.

Despite not winning a room just yet, Emma and Ben shared that they are hoping for Auction Day success with their secret weapon: a storage space under their house, which might actually be a wine cellar.

Over on Seven, My Kitchen Rules raked in a Total TV National Reach of 1,536,000.

Channel 10‘s The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity saw a Total TV National Reach of 1,051,000.
