Last night, A Current Affair detailed allegations that the boss of a national furniture company took customer deposits and failed to deliver orders, despite numerous complaints.
Now, Jonathan McDonald, the owner of Johnny’s Furniture and Ashley Homestore, has been slapped with a $32,000 fine after an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading.
He pleaded guilty to 16 counts of accepting payment and failing to supply goods or services within a reasonable time.
McDonald has 23 stores across NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
A Current Affair exposed his business for leaving a trail of angry customers, who say they have paid thousands for furniture that they never received.
Fortunately, some were able to receive refunds from their bank.
“It’s one thing to not get a product when you spend that much money, but to get no communication is pretty poor,” Sam said.
“No one has money these days to just be sitting around in your shop, you’re doing whatever you want with it,” Yovana said.
The episode brought in a Total TV National Reach of 1,609,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 1,073,000 for Nine.
Over on Seven, The Chase saw a Total TV National Reach of 1,276,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 605,000.
Channel 10’s Gogglebox raked in a Total TV National Reach of 1,0161,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 615,000.
ABC’s 7.30 saw it reach a Total TV National of 1,301,000 and a Total TV National Average Audience of 957,000.
