There’s only a few days left for you to cast your vote on triple j’s Hottest songs of 2020, and it turns out that top-spot and second place on the countdown are nearly neck and neck.
As triple j has been poring over the millions of votes towards the countdown so far, the station has noticed there’s a bit of an insider tiebreaker: there are fewer than 350 votes between number one and number two.
According to triple j, this hasn’t been seen in Hottest 100 history since Muse pipped Silverchair by just 14 votes to reach number one in the 2007 countdown.
So, if you’re one of the 63,000 voters who’ve started putting together your Top 10 but are struggling with your shortlist, get it over the line: your vote could make a huge difference to the outcome.
It’s unclear which songs are at the top of the list. But if you’re struggling for choice, a few of the world’s best known musicians have revealed who they’ll be voting for in the Hottest 100.
Billie Eilish is voting for ‘At The Door’ by The Strokes. “I wish I could put this whole album as my first choice,” she says of The New Abnormal, via triple j. “It’s been my favourite album in many years.”
Tkay Maidza’s ‘Shook’ also appears to be a favourite, sitting at number one for a few musicians, too.
“As soon as I heard ‘Shook’ I messaged Tkay straight away and told her this is the best song of the f**king year,” G Flip said, via triple j.
