The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) has brought to life the ‘when I grow up’ dreams of sick kids, by transforming bus shelters across Sydney into unexpected moments of reflection and empathy.
Across Coogee, Randwick and Chatswood, each shelter is inspired by the ambitions of children who have been supported by the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network. Whether that be a doctor, a builder or sports star – commuters are reminded that a child who holds these dreams is currently in a hospital bed, not a classroom or playground.
These installations insert SCHF’s mission into the fabric of the city – harnessing the power of philanthropy, to bring world-leading care to the frontline and future of children’s health.
Making sick kids visible in spaces we usually pass through without thinking is creating a powerful contrast between the futures we imagine for children, and the reality sick kids are living through right now.
Until 30 June, commuters are encouraged to stop in their tracks when they see an immersive bus shelter and take action to change the future for sick kids instantly through the tap-and-go mechanism integrated into each shelter.
The activation is part of the Sydney Sick Kids Appeal. Tax-deductible donations can help provide the life-saving treatments, expert care and support services that give sick kids the best chance to heal, grow and press play on their childhood. To donate, visit the SCHF website.
