Spotify will introduce new video controls enabling users globally to turn off video content including videos for music or podcasts as well as Canvas looping visuals, for themselves and family plan members.
This is the newest control for families and young people to ensure a more tailored experience, and builds on the controls that are already in place with the managed accounts offering.
The new controls give premium and free users the ability to choose how they want to engage with video on Spotify. Video is a complement to the content, not the core proposition.
In subscription settings on mobile, users can now turn video content on or off for themselves, and family plan managers will also have access to these controls for all plan members. These settings work and translate across all platforms and devices.
More than 70 per cent of Spotify users say more video content would enhance their experience on Spotify, but not every listener wants the same experience. By putting control directly in users’ hands, it’s easier to switch without friction.
Dustee Jenkins, chief public affairs officer, at Spotify said: “This is just the newest control we’ve introduced, and it builds on our approach to safety and privacy. We know that more than 93 per cent of Spotify users are excited about features that give them more control over their listening.
“We also recognise that not all users will want to hear or see everything on our service. That’s why we’ve introduced age assurance systems that combine Spotify’s technology with that of our trusted partners.”
“These tools help ensure that age-restricted features—whether they’re music videos for users 18 years and older or chats sharing music for users 16 years and older—are available for the appropriate audiences, while prioritizing user data privacy every step of the way.” Jenkins added.
