SBS has the national free-to-air broadcast rights for the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS for the next two years.

The TCS Sydney Marathon will be broadcast on Sunday, 30 August from 6.00am AEST live and free on SBS and SBS On Demand, with highlights available for catch-up on SBS On Demand following the event.

As the only Abbott World Marathon Majors event in the Southern Hemisphere, the TCS Sydney Marathon draws elite athletes and everyday runners from 117 countries across the globe, all taking on one of the most spectacular race courses in the world. SBS’s reach and commitment to diverse audiences makes it the ideal home for an event that unites communities and cultures in a shared celebration of sport and city.

“We are delighted to welcome SBS back as our official broadcast partner for the next two years,” said Wayne Larden, race director, TCS Sydney Marathon. “SBS has an extraordinary track record of bringing world-class sporting events to the Australian public, and their commitment to reflecting the diversity of this nation mirrors everything the TCS Sydney Marathon stands for.

“From elite champions chasing podium glory to first-time finishers crossing the line with their families cheering, SBS will tell the full story of a race that truly reflects modern Australia. This is a partnership built on shared values, and we look forward to bringing the energy, ambition, and spirit of race day into homes across the country.

“This partnership with SBS alongside our extensive international broadcast distribution partnerships will showcase the TCS Sydney Marathon and our beautiful city of Sydney to the world in a really positive way.”

SBS director of Sport, Ken Shipp said “The TCS Sydney Marathon is one of the great sporting events on the Australian calendar, and we’re proud to bring it to Australians live and free on SBS.

“As the only Abbott World Marathon Major in the Southern Hemisphere, it now sits alongside the most iconic distance races in the world. But what makes this event special is the mix of elite competition, personal achievement and community spirit that plays out across the streets of Sydney.

“SBS is the natural home for an event that reflects modern Australia, bringing together people from all backgrounds through a shared passion for sport. We look forward to sharing every moment with Australians in 2026 and 2027.”

SBS is the current Australian broadcaster for the World Cup.

Sydney’s streets become the stage on race day. The 42-kilometre course takes runners from North Sydney, across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and through the heart of the city, finishing at one of the most iconic finish lines in the world, the Sydney Opera House. SBS will give the nation front-row seats.

The TCS Sydney Marathon is supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. The event is owned by Athletics Australia and managed by Pont3.
