Nvidia has appointed former Google marketing executive Alison Wagonfeld as its very first chief marketing officer.
Wagonfeld will report directly to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and will be tasked with overseeing Nvidia’s marketing and communications team when she begins in February.
The move has consolidated multiple marketing responsibilities and roles that had been previously been shared across different executive teams. It is the time Nvidia, the world’s largest computer chip maker, has dedicated a senior role in marketing.
In a LinkedIn post, she said: “Sharing some personal news! After nearly 10 years of building Google Cloud from a promising start-up in 2016 to a thriving $60B run-rate business today, I will be leaving Google in late January to join NVIDIA as its Chief Marketing Officer. I’m excited to be joining Jensen’s leadership team in a new role heading up marketing and communications as NVIDIA embarks on its next phase of growth.”
Wagonfeld brings close to a decade of experience at Google, where she was tasked with leading the company’s cloud computing business. During her time there, she pioneered the scaling of Google’s Cloud presence, strategic messaging, managing campaigns and global marketing initiatives.
Prior to her time at Google, Wagonfeld held marketing leadership roles at other technology firms, including Intuit and Greenlight.
Nvidia reported record quarterly sales of $57 billion, a 62 per cent increase from the previous year and surpassing all analysts’ expectations.
Nvidia’s recent expansion has been fuelled by its evolving role as a key provider of computer chips for advanced AI services and tools, which has surged in popularity following the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022.
