News Corp Australasia’s executive chairman Michael Miller this morning announced Lisa Muxworthy’s appointment as editor-in-chief of news.com.au, effective immediately.

Announcing Muxworthy’s appointment, Miller said: “Kate and Lisa have been a formidable team and I’m delighted that Lisa was the strongest candidate to emerge from the vigorous process we conducted to find news.com.au’s next editor in chief.”

Muxworthy began her career in community journalism more than 20 years ago. After years of reporting on politics, health and general news Ms Muxworthy edited The Mosman Daily and The Southern Courier before joining news.com.au as deputy editor.

“Lisa is now a uniquely qualified digital journalist and editor and I look forward to seeing her lead news.com.au to the next level of audience growth and engagement,” Miller said.

“News.com.au is still a new brand in media terms, but in a little over 20 years it’s developed an incredibly ambitious approach that’s seen it grow to now reach more than 11 million Australians every month. Now, as the country’s number one commercial news website, it has the opportunity to take its success to another level.”

Muxworthy said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have the privilege of leading the powerhouse that is news.com.au. It leads the way in digital news in Australia because it has incredible people and I’m honoured to lead them to the next stage.”
