Its ads are only a few weeks old, but new online Aussie bookmaker Neds has been forced to pull one of them after it was found by the Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB) to promote excessive gambling.
The ad, which is part of Neds’ inaugural campaign by Ogilvy Brisbane launched late last month to coincide with the 2017 Spring Racing Carnival, shows a group of tradesmen excusing themselves from building a house because they’re too busy taking a punt.
The ASB found that the ad violated the Wagering Advertising and Marketing Code by promoting excessive gambling, noting that the humour “did not negate the portrayal of gambling taking priority in men’s lives”.
Neds have complied with the ASB’s ruling by withdrawing the ad from free-to-air TV. However, the ad can still run on pay TV, social media, and as corporate videos.
