LiSTNR and the University of Newcastle have launched a new podcast that showcases the people pioneering change, called The Minds Changing Lives.

The podcast is a first for the University of Newcastle and takes inspiration from the stories told through its online platform Hippocampus – with topics such as removing needles from the diabetes testing process, and research that could change the travel industry forever.

Hosted by the University of Newcastle’s Shahni Wellington, The Minds Changing Lives aims to cement in people’s minds the broad scope of community impact that University of Newcastle researchers, students and alumni are making. It will complement the stories told through Hippocampus and offers an in depth look at the people behind the advancements.

Commenting on the podcast, Wellington said: “It’s been an amazing opportunity to speak to people who are shaping the world as we know it. From needle-free diabetes testing, to addressing an urgent need for speech therapy in our regional areas – the incredible work showcased in this podcast will impact the future as we know it. “I’m just excited to be a small part of the journey!”

The initial six episodes include how University of Newcastle students and researchers are working to solve real cold cases, and what hydrogen means for the future of renewable energy and how the Hunter region will lead the charge. University of Newcastle deputy vice-chancellor (global partnerships and engagement), Professor Kent Anderson, said: “The Minds Changing Lives allows the University to take listeners on a journey, showcasing the impact that our researchers are having on people in our community.”

LiSTNR executive producer branded podcasting, Todd Stevens, said: “The University of Newcastle is working across such a diverse range of projects that our challenge was narrowing down which of these made it into the podcast. Our episode guests were so passionate about what they do but even more driven by why they do it. From the role that speech pathology plays in setting up children to live their best life, to unpacking how people with diabetes could one day better manage their condition, this isn’t a podcast just about research and discovery – it is a collection of stories about why these breakthroughs are important to so many.”

The Minds Changing Lives will have new episodes released every two weeks on Mondays and is available now on the LiSTNR app.
