January of 2026 tells a very different story that the Triton Podcast Ranker is used to. For the first time since June of 2025, Hamish and Andy has fallen off their Podcast Ranker throne. Its successor is none other than Mamamia Out Loud, which recorded 755,303 monthly listeners and 2,021,494 monthly downloads.
In a media landscape traditionally dominated by legacy broadcast networks, true crime and male-led comedy, Mamamia Out Loud has stomped its authority and become one of the first female-led shows to ever claim the top spot on the Triton Podcast Ranker.
While the industry has long categorised ‘women’s interest’ as a niche vertical, this result confirms it is, in fact, the most listened-to podcast of any kind in Australia. Mamamia Out Loud isn’t this months Steven Bradbury, the flagship podcast has proven its popularity, claiming a spot in the top three for the past six month.
“Today’s result proves you don’t just reach an audience—you lead the conversation. Hitting #1 isn’t a fluke of the calendar; it’s a proof of concept. It proves that when the big broadcast machines
take a breath over Summer, Mamamia Out Loud, and our entire podcast network, does not,” said Zara Curtis, chief content officer, Mamamia.
“Mamamia Out Loud has grown on every platform for 10 consecutive years and shares a unique parasocial relationship with its audience. This superbrand is just getting started.”
Curtis is referring to the likes of Hamish and Andy going on a ‘Government mandated break’ over summer. Which is Hamish and Andy joking about the government forceing them to take a break from radio or podcasting because they’ve produced “too much good content” or “worked too hard for the nation.”
The pair’s extremely popular podcast hasn’t posted an episode since 3 December. So the fact that in January—when the podcast produced zero episodes—that the pair still ranked seventh with 315,505 monthly listeners and 776,822 monthly downloads is quite impressive.
The pair weren’t kicking back on the beach and drinking Piña Coladas however. They were producing episodes on their Hamish & Andy Plus +. This project was launched in December of last year to house bonus projects and specialised content outside their main show.
The new podcast contains a brand-new gameshow Quizmas Time with Hamish & Andy. Hosted by longtime friend and trivia tragic Michael “Magic Mike (Not A Stripper)” Webb, Quizmas Time invites listeners to try and beat Hamish and Andy in a quiz the boys play together.
In the bonus contents second month, it recorded 297,485 monthly listeners and 519,537 monthly downloads from four episodes—moving up 21 spots and claiming eighth.
“Today’s January Triton Podcast Ranker results once again reinforce LiSTNR’s position as Australia’s leading commercial podcast network, underpinned by premium content, trusted talent, strong commercial performance and deep audience engagement,” said Stephen Haddad, SCA’s chief operating officer.
“It was pleasing to see Hamish & Andy, still on their ‘Government mandated break’, and their new series Hamish & Andy Plus+, featured in the Top 10, along with Life Uncut, which recorded its first full month with LiSTNR and delivered month-on-month audience growth.
“We also saw strong year-on-year growth for Secrets We Keep and Willow Talk, both building their audiences and we’re excited to welcome The Inspired Unemployed to LiSTNR from April, further expanding our high-profile comedy offering and giving audiences access to one of Australia’s most popular comic duos.
“As a publisher, LiSTNR delivered year-on-year growth across our owned and operated titles, while also driving growth across the broader podcast market within the CRA member group nationwide.
“Finally, our SiriusXM sales representation partnership delivered substantial year-on-year growth, particularly for The Mel Robbins Podcast and Call Her Daddy.”
While most of the industry went into hibernation over the summer, Mamamia leaned in with its counter-programming strategy ‘Hot Pod Summer’, which saw growth across the entire network of
“Mamamia Out Loud is a modern superbrand and one of the most powerful marketing vehicles in the country. Over the last 10 years we have built a loyal audience, providing advertisers with an
unrivalled platform to connect with the most engaged listeners in Australia. We thank our advertising partners for their support,” added Georgie Nichols, chief revenue officer, Mamamia.
ARN’s iHeart Podcast Network Continues To Grow
As ARN’s iHeart Podcast Network celebrates its sixth birthday this month, it also celebrates multiple shows climbing the charts in January.
A big standout is Australian True Crime, which has officially joined iHeart and made an immediate impact on the charts. The podcast surged 10 places to become the highest-ranking true crime podcast and 13th in the January ranker.
Now in its ninth year, Australian True Crime is hosted by self-described true crime obsessive Meshel Laurie and explores the darker corners of Australian life through powerful interviews with victims, their families and investigators. Its move to iHeart marks a significant new chapter for the brand, with plans to expand into video and launch a new national radio show, True Crime Tonight, across the KIIS Network in 2026.
“Joining ARN and iHeart is such an exciting step for Australian True Crime. It’s amazing to see the podcast resonate with even more listeners, and I can’t wait to explore new ways to bring these stories to life. Expanding onto other platforms will let us share these stories with even more Australians, and I’m thrilled for what’s ahead,” commented Laurie.
The latest ranker also saw strong results across iHeart’s premium local and global slate, including: The New York Times’ ‘The Daily’ is Australia’s #1 international podcast, up three places to #7; On Purpose with Jay Shetty is Australia’s #1 Health & Fitness podcast, rising two places to #18; The Kyle & Jackie O Show is Australia’s #1 Radio podcast, jumping eight spots to #19; BBC’s Global News Podcast, climbing 16 places to #20; Stuff You Should Know is Australia’s #1 Knowledge podcast, up two places to #21; She’s on the Money is Australia’s #1 Finance podcast, climbing 13 places to #27.
“Welcoming Australian True Crime to the iHeart Podcast Network is a major milestone. It’s one of the country’s most respected and influential podcasts, and its rise up the chart shows how deeply it resonates with Australian audiences,” added Corey Layton, ARN’s head of digital audio.
“As we approach iHeart’s sixth birthday, these results reflect the strength of our strategy – investing in premium iHeart Originals, partnering with Australia’s most beloved creators, and bringing together the world’s biggest titles across podcasts, video and broadcast to drive growth for audiences, creators and commercial partners.”
Since launching in Australia in 2020, ARN’s iHeart continues to deliver true crime, news, entertainment, business and lifestyle. With 6.7 million monthly listeners and 22.8 million monthly downloads, iHeart now reaches 37 per cent of all weekly podcast ranker listeners.
