Two of the world’s elite footballers Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr will feature at MCG when Brazil takes on Argentina on Friday 9 June 2017 in the Chevrolet Brazil Global Tour. TEG, Australian ticketing, live entertainment and data analytics company, made the announcement today in conjunction with TLA Worldwide, the Victorian Government and its agency Visit Victoria.
Brazil and Argentina will bring their best available talent to Australia. As well as 2016 Olympic Games Gold medal winner, Neymar Jr, fans can look forward to seeing Brazilian stars Dani Alves, Filipe Luís, Fernandinho, Philippe Coutinho and Willian.
Alongside Five-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner, Messi, Argentina’s star players include Sergio Aguero, Javier Mascherano, Sergio Romero, Angel Di Maria, Pablo Zabaleta, Gonzalo Higuain and Angel Correa.
Argentina manager Edgardo Bauza said that his side would be viewing the match as a crucial form of preparation amid qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. “There is 100 years of rivalry between Argentina and Brazil. These matches are always special,” said Bauza.
“We look forward to meeting in Melbourne. Our priority is to prepare for the important World Cup qualifiers coming up in 2017 and this match and the camp will be extremely valuable.”
Victorian Minister for Sport, Tourism and Major Events John Eren said he was delighted for Melbourne to deliver yet another major sporting event that is set to be recognised worldwide.
“There’s no bigger occasion in football than when Brazil take on Argentina, and it’s coming to Melbourne,” said Eren. “The biggest and best events attract visitors in their thousands. They’re here keeping our bars, restaurants and hotels busy, and that means jobs for Victorians.”
TEG CEO Geoff Jones said the Chevrolet Brazil Global Tour ranks as one of the most prestigious international events ever staged in Australia.
“It is not just the rare opportunity to see Messi, Neymar Jr and so many other stars on Australian soil,” he said.
“It will showcase the fierce rivalry between two of the greatest football nations on earth, who have won seven FIFA World Cups between them.
“TEG is proud to be a partner in this landmark occasion, which will only enhance Melbourne’s envied reputation for hosting international major events.”
TLA Worldwide chairman Bart Campbell said he was thrilled to once again bring another world-class sporting spectacle to Melbourne.
“Whether you are a football purist or a major event fan, the Chevrolet Brazil Global Tour is truly a must-see event in 2017,” he said.
