Allianz Australia has revealed a major new brand campaign by Howatson+Company, positioning the insurer at the heart of one of the year’s most anticipated cultural moments: The AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026.

As Allianz Australia’s Official Insurance Partner of Football Australia, the campaign reinforces the brand’s long-term platform, ‘Care you can count on’, through an emotionally powerful and visually ambitious hero film Adrift.

At the centre of the work is Amy Sayer, star midfielder for the Matildas, whose return to international football follows a 457-day recovery from an ACL injury.

Rather than producing a traditional sponsorship-led sports ad, the agency have crafted a narrative that dramatises the psychological and physical toll of long-term injury.

The film visualises Sayer’s recovery as being lost at sea — adrift on open water — transforming a personal comeback into a broader brand story about resilience and the power of sustained care.

The agency enlisted Oscar-nominated director Michael Gracey to bring cinematic scale and emotional authenticity to the script. Set to Sia’s song Unstoppable, the film blends practical effects and high-end post-production to create an immersive, visceral experience.

In a move that signals Allianz’s commitment to premium brand storytelling, the film was captured in a real water tank using practical sets, with in-camera techniques forming the foundation of the visual narrative. World-class CGI by ALT VFX was then layered in to heighten the metaphorical journey while maintaining realism.

The result is a piece of work that feels closer to cinematic long-form storytelling than conventional insurance advertising – elevating the category through emotional depth and production craft.

The campaign directly ladders up to Allianz’s brand platform, using Sayer’s story to dramatise the idea that “care never gives up.” Rather than focusing on product features, Howatson+Company has built the brand’s value proposition into a culturally resonant sporting narrative — aligning Allianz with perseverance, recovery and collective support.

“Australians are known for their resilience, whether it’s overcoming career-threatening injuries or facing unexpected events like severe weather. This campaign builds on our brand platform, ‘Care you can count on,’ by celebrating strength, determination, and the idea that ‘care never gives up’, just as Allianz is there to support our customers when they need us,” Laura Halbert, CMO Allianz Australia, said.

Says Gavin Chimes, CCO Howatson+Company added: “No one plans for the moment that stops everything.”

“No one plans for the moment that stops everything. For Amy, hundreds of days separated who she was from who she could become again,” he said. “That’s why Allianz tells this story – because in those dark moments between loss and recovery, care is more than a promise, it’s a lifeline. And by never giving up on it, true greatness can be achieved. Michael Gracey understood this perfectly. It was a privilege having him and his team bring our script to life”.

Howatson+Company has extended the hero film into a fully integrated national campaign spanning cinema, BVOD, YouTube, outdoor, digital and social. The rollout ensures Allianz is embedded across both mass-reach and performance environments during the tournament period, maximising visibility and brand impact.
